The 'From Cradle to Moon' collection is aimed at children aged 0 to 3, for whom these poetic pictograms, or "poegrams," have been specially designed; a term coined to describe a type of pictographic poetry based on finding a reading rhythm that helps "educate the eye and delight the ear" of the young reader, as Antonio Rubio explains. Óscar Villán—winner of the 1999 National Illustration Prize—developed the aesthetic design for these twelve books.
Regarding the content, each book in the From Cradle to Moon collection is “a poetic exercise of great simplicity and musical power.” In this way, the child learns how to read from left to right, from top to bottom, and that turning the pages is the unfolding of the verses.
Given the diminished importance of writing, images acquire full communicative power. They are perfectly legible images that are articulated in the same way as words, with their syllables counted; arranged like verses: ordered, measured, with rhythm and final rhyme; and they can be read independently from an early age.
